The Weekly Cycle

Monday dawns bright and chirpy,

Then the floodgates of work hit you, making your brain feel murky,

Mondays hold the promise of something new;

You simply want to feel anew,

By Wednesday, you desperately begin to yearn for Friday.

To quote my son, "Why can't we have a holiday every day?"

I wish that were the only way everyone lived,

Unfortunately, this is how generations before us have also lived,

The only way to break the cycle is to retire,

Yet the idea of life without work suddenly seems dire,
